Britain's Biggest Rail Festival - RAILFEST 2012 2nd-10th June
The East Coast Electric Class 91 locomotive 91110, which set the UK speed record, was named ‘Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’ by TV’s Carol Vorderman to open the Railfest event. Fly-pasts by the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster bomber PA474, flanked by Hurricane and Spitfire fighters co-incided with the naming ceremony. This locomotive achieved a UK national speed record (162mph) for electric trains at Stoke Bank, north of Peterborough, on 17 September 1989.
